A sample three day tour based in Edinburgh might be:

  • Day 1 - A tour of the city and visits to Holyrood Palace and Edinburgh Castle.
  • Day 2 - A tour of the Kingdom of Fife beginning with Dunfermline, birthplace of Andrew Carnegie and burial place of the 11th century Queen Margaret. From there we would go to Palace of Falkland and on to St. Andrews, where we see Scotland’s first university dating from 1411, and also, for the golfers, the famous Old Course. We return to Edinburgh via the picturesque fishing villages of Fife.
  • Day 3 - Could be:
    • A tour of the Borders centres on the ruins of the great abbeys. It is also the area so loved by Walter Scott. The Borders is truly beautiful with its rolling land dotted with delightful villages.
    • As an alternative it is only an hour to Stirling Castle, lived in by 13 Stuart monarchs. The town of Stirling is a lovely area to walk in with its associations with William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. From Stirling, the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National park with its world famous scenery is just over an hour away.

Tour based in Glasgow

A sample three day tour based in Glasgow might be built up from the following:

  • Day 1 - A tour of the city of Glasgow takes in the university founded in 1451, the Museum and Art Gallery, the historical precinct around the cathedral and the great Victorian city centre. A day in Glasgow can also include a visit to the Burrell Collection.
  • Day 2 and 3 - Could be:
    • A day in Edinburgh
    • A day in Stirling & Loch Lomond
    • A day to Alloway birthplace of our national poet, Robert Burns. There are many places in the area associated with the life and the poetry of Burns. Listening to his poetry at the very locations he wrote about is an unforgettable experience.
To reach this lovely village we drive along the east side of the river Clyde estuary with stunning views to the island of Arran and the extinct volcano we call Ailsa Craig rising out of the sea. Alloway is near Ayr which is a delightful town with good shopping, while nearby is the world famous golf course of Turnberry.
    • A day to Oban via Loch Lomond and Inveraray-with its castle, home of one of the most powerful families in Scotland for over 300 years and still regularly lived in by the current Duke of Argyll and his family. Then it is on via glens and along the edges of lochs to Oban, the gateway to the isles.
